Why is a Saltwater Pool Better?

“Why is a saltwater pool better?” is a question we’re often asked, and there are many reasons, with a more comfortable swimming experience than a traditional chlorine pool the most notable. Not only are saltwater pools gentler on the skin, they are also kinder to the environment.

Is a Saltwater Pool as Salty as the Ocean?

This is another frequent question from clients who may be considering a saltwater pool conversion. The answer is an emphatic no. The salinity of the water in a pool with a saltwater system is nowhere near that of the ocean. It is simply softer – less harsh feeling – than a chlorine pool because it has far fewer chemicals.

Converting to a Saltwater Pool

Although it’s referred to as “converting to a saltwater pool,” the actual process of switching from chlorine to saltwater involves changes to a pool’s filter system, not the pool itself. The chlorine system is replaced with a saltwater chlorinator, which generates the chlorine on site.

We have installed hundreds of pools on Cape Cod since Seaside Pools was established in 1997. In recent years, they have been almost exclusively saltwater pools. Never once has someone converted from saltwater to chlorine, yet converting from chlorine is a common request.
